Highrock is Switching to Virtual Gatherings

Greetings with God's grace and peace during this difficult time. Highrock Southwest Boston will join the effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 by switching to virtual services starting this Sunday. In the next few days, we will update this page with how you can participate on Sundays.

We made this decision in consultation with other churches in the Highrock Network and with public health officials. We do this also out of care and consideration for those among us, as well as for the residents of Roslindale House, who are at greater risk with this virus.

This was not an easy decision but we believe that this is the best way to love God, each other, and our neighbors in sacrificial ways. Public health officials continue to emphasize the importance of avoiding large group gatherings during this time. They are telling us that the best way to serve our neighbors is to slow the spread of this virus so that medical facilities and professionals are not overwhelmed by more patients than they can care for. We do this by avoiding gatherings of more than 25 people, and even in smaller gatherings practicing “micro social distancing”, which includes remaining at least 6 feet apart from each other, and frequent hand washing.

In the church prayer meeting this week, we sensed the Lord inviting us into three things that I think would be helpful for us all to hear:
1-To give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thes. 5:18--Praise God that we have the tech to meet virtually!)
2-To receive changes in church life as an invitation from God
3-To recognize and mourn the difficulty brought on by "social distancing" that reduces the interpersonal contact for which we are designed

However long this lasts, God's mission and our communal life will continue. It is my prayer that we will continue to seek the Lord for how he might be inviting us to love him, one another and our neighbors even more so during a time of anxiety.

Please share with me and with others in this community any needs you have--for prayer, for connection, for other assistance.

As another Highrock pastor wisely wrote about this: "We will be dominated not by fear but by love."

In Christ's love,

Andy

If you are interested in the science and rationale, I found both of these very helpful in understanding how we can mitigate the impact of the virus by choosing not to gather.
